Woman Locks Self and Son for 3 Years In Fear of Covid-19

Due to extreme fear of contracting COVID-19, a woman locked herself and her minor son in their house in Gurugram's Chakkarpur for three years.

The coronavirus pandemic left a lasting fear in the hearts of people around the world. However, after battling it for quite some time, the world is slowly coming to terms with it.

Unfortunately, there are a few people who are still scared of Covid. Munmun Majhi from Gurugram, locked herself and her 10-year-old son inside their home for three long years due to the extreme fear of the virus.

The woman even restricted her husband Sujan Majhi, an engineer, from entering their home after he began commuting to work following the lifting of lockdown restrictions in 2020. Consequently, the man was forced to rent a house in the same area. Since then, he has only been able to contact them over video calls. He pays their rent, and his son’s school fees, runs their errands and leaves their necessary items in front of the main road. Additionally, after having to change an empty gas cylinder, Munmun even stopped using gas. Instead, she opted for an induction stove. Sujan made multiple attempts to persuade her but to no avail. He even asked his in-laws to talk to Munmun. But Munmun was too rigid with her decision that she wouldn’t set them free until they have a Covid vaccine for kids.

The boy's mother used to cut the child's and her own hair at home. Even the garbage in the house was not thrown out for three years and no one had visited the house during this time. The child used to make paintings on the walls of the house and used to only study with pencils. Shockingly, the woman's son had not even seen the sun in the last three years. All this while, neighbours had no clue that both of them were locked inside the house. The woman was in a state of panic due to Covid-19 and believed that her son would die if he stepped out of the house. This compelled Sujan to contact the police authorities. Despite multiple attempts, the husband failed to convince his wife to come out of her isolation. With no options left, he decided to get help from the authorities.

A police officer Praveen Kumar said, "I admit I did not take the case seriously at first since it involved a family matter. But the man was in distress. He made me talk to his wife and son over a video call. I was a little restless after talking to the child. He was upset that he hadn’t come out in the sun in three years.

On arriving at the location, the cops made multiple requests to the woman to open the door. However, she did not budge. As a result, they broke in and released the two. Disturbing visuals from inside the house show a pile of clothes, hair, garbage, dirt, and groceries strewn all around. The duo was then rushed to a Civil Hospital for immediate medical treatment. Doctors have pointed out that it could be the anxieties of the lady that resulted in her behavioural changes during and after Covid.
