Sonam Wangchuk’s Wallet Power Theory Against China

Sonam Wangchuk, is the man who inspired Aamir Khan’s character in 3 Idiots. Wangchuk is an engineer turned - education reformer. He recently shared a video on his social media asking all Indians to boycott all Chinese things. The video has gone viral on Twitter and WhatsApp. Wangchuk made the video because of tensions between India and China at the LAC. In the video, he is sitting outside with the beautiful Himalaya mountains behind him. He said that such military tensions are not only in India. China has engaged in military conflict with many countries such as Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam. According to SW, in China people are very unhappy with the Chinese government’s handling of COVID-19 and other economic problems. China is very afraid that its 140 crore population will revolt against the government. This is why to distract people from such problems, China is fighting with countries.
He said that, if India wants to win the war against China, we do not have to use our ‘Bullet power’. We need to use our ‘Wallet Power’. This means that we must stop buying Chinese products. Wangchuk said that, “when we buy items from China, the same money is used by China to buy weapons to kill Indian soldiers at the border. On the one hand, our soldiers are fighting at the border and on the other hand, we are buying Chinese mobiles, computers, clothes, etc. This means we are sending all our money to the Chinese armies. Our youth are using Chinese Apps like TikTok, MI apps, CS Scanner and giving China crores of rupees in business.” We need to attack China’s economy, then the Chinese people will go against the government.
He said that PM Modi had announced the ‘Atamanirbhar Bharat’ which means self-reliant India. He said we must all support Modi for this. SW has appealed that we must boycott made in China, “We must uninstall all Chinese software in one week and remove all Chinese hardware in one year. It takes time to remove hardware from our lives, but we must try to remove it one year. Let’s make this promise and also inform others about it.” We lakhs of apps are uninstalled and people stop buying Chinese items, China will clearly understand. This is the only way we can begin peace talks with China. According to SW, Boycotting Chinese products doesn’t mean we must boycott Chinese people. Our problems are with the Chinese government. So we must not oppress them.
