New Mother Suffers Pain After Doctor Leaves Towel Inside Stomach
A woman in Rajasthan discovered a towel left inside her abdomen after a C-section, leading to severe pain and medical negligence, prompting an FIR against the doctor and hospital.
A joyful time after childbirth turned into a nightmare for a woman in Rajasthan, who discovered a towel left inside her abdomen months after a C-section delivery.
The 28-year-old woman from Kuchaman City had undergone a C-section at the local government hospital three months ago. However, soon after the delivery, she began suffering from severe stomach and abdominal pain. She could barely eat, which affected her milk production, forcing her to feed her newborn with external milk.
Despite visiting multiple hospitals in Kuchaman, Makrana, and even Ajmer, the woman’s condition didn’t improve. Doctors couldn’t identify the cause of the pain, and the treatments they gave her failed to bring any relief. During a visit to a doctor in Ajmer, a CT scan was done, but the doctor mistakenly identified a lump in her abdomen, causing even more worry for her family.
On 15th November 2024, desperate for answers, the woman and her family went to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jodhpur. After conducting tests, the doctors discovered a foreign body inside her abdomen. Gastro Surgeon Dr. Subhash Soni recommended surgery to find out what the object was and remove it.
On 17th November 2024, during the surgery, the doctors were shocked to find a 15x10 cm towel lodged inside her abdomen. The towel was immediately removed, and the family was informed that the towel had been left inside by the doctor during her C-section at the Kuchaman government hospital.
It was later confirmed that the doctor who performed the C-section had unknowingly left the towel inside the woman’s abdomen while stitching her up. The family and doctors were stunned by the medical negligence that had caused the woman so much pain and suffering for months.
The woman was discharged from AIIMS on 25th November 2024. Her family, devastated by the shocking incident, has now filed an FIR against the doctor and the Kuchaman government hospital for medical negligence and misconduct. They have also submitted the towel as key evidence in their complaint.
In response, the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) for Kuchaman, Anil Judia, has set up a special committee to investigate the matter. He assured that strict action would be taken against the doctor and the hospital if they were found guilty of negligence.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the quality of healthcare and medical standards at government hospitals, with many questioning how such a serious mistake could have been made.
