Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on 15th March instead of announcing a lockdown released new guidelines because of the rising cases of COVID-19. According to the new guidelines social, cultural, religious or political gatherings will not be allowed in the state. At wedding functions only 50 people will be allowed and at funeral ceremonies only 20 people will be allowed. Theatres, hotels and restaurants will function at 50% capacity. At any place be it shop, theatre, mall, etc. masks will be compulsory and staff will be responsible to maintain social distancing among the public.
The Maharashtra government has advised people to work from home. All offices except health and other essential services will work with 50% attendance. Any office found to be breaking rules will be shut down till the pandemic remains. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that a lockdown is no answer to the rising cases of COVID-19. But the government will impose strict restrictions. He even said that even though cases are increasing, the number of deaths have been low. ALmost 85% of those infected are asymptomatic and have been advised home quarantine. Tope added that people must sanitize their hands, wear masks, maintain social distance and follow rules to avoid a new lockdown. Almost 1 lakh people are getting vaccinated daily. There is no shortage of vaccines and Senior Citizens must get vaccinated at the earliest.
