India Demands Pakistan to Repatriate 10 Indian Prisoners

In a note verbale to Pakistan, India demands the immediate release and repatriation of 10 Indian civilian prisoners and 285 fishermen who are currently in jails across Pakistan.

On 2nd April 2019, the Indian Government in a note verbale to Pakistan demanded the release of 10 Indian civilian persons and 385 Indian fishermen in the Pakistan jails. They have asked the Pakistan government to allow the Indian Embassy officials to meet with the Indian Prisoners, including Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav. India has said that these prisoners have already completed their sentence in the Pakistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that Pakistan is aware that the prisoners are Indians and that they have completed their punishment. Even then they are not sending them back to the country. They MEA has demanded the Pakistan High Commission make arrangements for the immediate release of these prisoners. The MEA of believes that there are many more Indian prisoners in Pakistan jails. Many of them are mentally unstable.

The Indian government has requested Pakistan to grant visas to medical expert teams, to visit Pakistan and conduct a thorough check up of the prisoners. India has also asked the Pakistan government to return fishing boats.
