American-Ukrainian Presidents Meet in the White House
Landing in the United States on 21st December Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met US President Joe Biden at the White House.
Since the beginning of Russia's invasion in Ukraine, Ukraine & Ukrainian President Zelensky has had some powerful support from the west. The most powerful of them all is the support of America in terms of arms as well as strategic support to boycott Russia on an international stage. Landing in the United States on Wednesday, 21st December Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met US President Joe Biden at the White House. Zelensky, wearing green colored cargo pants and a sweatshirt rather than a suit, was driven to the White House where Biden, joined by his wife Jill, met him. Biden then escorted him past doors where guards held the US and Ukrainian flags. This is Zelensky's first trip outside Ukraine since it was invaded 300 days ago by Russia.
Zelensky's meeting with Biden at the White House comes ahead of his address before a joint meeting of the US Congress on Wednesday, 21st December night at the US Capital. During their meeting, Joe Biden said that it is Hard to believe, 300 days going through this brutal war. Zelensky, during his speech, thanked the US Congress for their support, President Joe Biden. He went on extending his gratitude from the citizens of Ukraine to the citizens of America. "You will never stand alone," Biden told Zelensky at a joint news conference which was held on the same day. Biden mentioned that the American people are with Ukraine and will stay with Ukraine for as long as it takes. Zelensky flew in secret to the United States, seeking some other funds and military support. As Zelensky arrived, the United States announced another $1.85 billion from previously budgeted funds for Ukraine. The US Congress also planned on voting on a 45 Billion Dollar Emergency Assistance package for Ukraine. This time the US has also provided Ukraine with the advanced Patriot air defense system, which is capable of shooting down cruise missiles and short-range ballistic missiles of Russia. Zelensky mentioned that the Patriot systems will strengthen Ukraine’s air defense significantly.
Moreover, both the presidents believed that Putin is the only one responsible for the overall loss of life and infrastructure caused by this war, as he is not willing to negotiate. Zelensky also clearly mentioned that he won’t be compromising on any land disputes with Russia and will not let Russia take away any of Ukraine's land.
