Odisha Govt Declares Rs 2.5 lakh Award For Marrying a PwD

The Odisha Government has announced an incentive of Rs 2.5 lakh for those who marry persons with disabilities.

Earlier the Odisha Government would pay people Rs 50,000 if they married a person with disabilities. Now they have increased this amount to Rs 2.5 lakhs. Bhaskar Sharma, commissioner-cum-secretary of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department wrote a letter to all the collectors in the state of Odisha confirming that the incentive amount has been increased. In his letter he said that, before when the incentive amount was Rs 50,000 the department found there were many operational problems. Which is why the amount has been increased. However, to avail the incentive, the bridegroom and the bride must have completed 21 years and 18 years of age. 

The guideline clearly mentioned that spouses should not have availed of the incentive award under this scheme earlier and such weddings should be dowry free. The incentive amount will remain fixed in the joint account of the couple and they can withdraw under joint signature after three years.The couple has to apply for it along with their marriage registration certificate.Both of the spouses should be residents of Odisha, they can apply online at [email protected]
