President Murmu Attends Purple Fest at Rashtrapati Bhavan's Amrit Udyaan

The Purple Fest Delhi took place on 26th February 2024 in the Amrit Udyaan of Rashtrapati Bhavan. ISH News was the official media partner of Purple Fest Delhi 2024.

India’s honorable President Droupadi Murmu also attended the festival to highlight the importance of inclusivity and empowerment of People with Disabilities (PwDs).

She watched the cultural performances. She then engaged in candid talks with several PwDs and later grew emotional while sharing her experiences.

ISH founder & CEO Alok Kejriwal also attended the festival and interacted with President Murmu discussing inclusivity & accessibility.

Notable personalities including Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar and Bollywood screenwriter & lyricist Javed Akhtar were also present at the festival.

ISH candidly interviewed many PwDs. This included a Deaf man named Nikunj who travels India on cycle. He also came to Delhi on it.  

Another interview included conversations with Gokaran, a Deaf man without hands who communicates in Indian Sign Language with his legs.

ISH also interviewed Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of People with Disabilities, Mr. Rajesh Aggarwal about government policies & special platforms for PwDs.

The fest focused on showcasing the talents of persons with disabilities (PwDs).

Different types of arts were seen. Some even created by blind artists. 

Acid attack victims were also seen spreading awareness.

Apart from the performances, various activities like ‘Know your disabilities’, ‘Purple Cafe’, ‘Purple Kaleidoscope’, ‘Purple Live Experience Zone’, ‘Purple Sports’ were also organized during the day for the visitors.

More than 14,000 people participated in the Fest. 

The ‘Purple Fest’ was organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India with the aims to raise awareness about different disabilities, their impact on people's lives and to promote understanding, acceptance and inclusion of persons with disabilities within society.

Rohan Kapoor, a wheelchair user, said having the president attend an event like this sends a powerful message of social acceptance. 

Another person with disability Lakshmi, who interacted with President Murmu, said meeting the president is a testament to the fact that our voices are being heard, and our talents are being recognised.
